Credit Where Credit is Due
I will be the first to admit that it is my fault for not adding credits to the end of one of my tutorial videos on YouTube. YouTube was one site, like Flickr, that I realized could be good for naturally promoting my business while providing value. I had created a simple tutorial video showing how to remove the background of a photo in Paint .NET. Yesterday, I checked on my video and found that it was being embedded on a website. The language on the site seemed to me like they were taking credit for the video. I left a comment thanking them for using my video, and found today that they had deleted the comment. This made it clear to me that they were not going to give me any credit for it. My first inclination was to delete the video, but it has over 6000 views, and I have the right to keep it. YouTube has a feature to add annotations to videos, so you can add notes that will show up, even in videos embedded on sites. You can see below what I have done with this one to claim credit for it. ![]()

Hi Blake. Tough break, but there’s a lesson - make sure the vid has your branding well placed and contact details at the end.

Hi Lindy,
Yes, I’ll have to chalk this one up as a learning experience. Future videos will definitely have credits.

Smart move, Blake; weasels, those guys who didn’t want to give you credit. By the way, I have to say that’s NOT the voice I was expecting based on your image. LOL

Thanks, Mitch. I was happy to find a way to work around not having credits.
LOL. Funny how it works that way. I do that a lot, getting an idea of what I think someone sounds like, and then I’m surprised. The latest comment on that video on YouTube says, “You have a very sexy voice”.
Not quite the type of comment I was expecting!

Hey Blake! As if it wasn’t enuff they “borrowed” your video without acknowledgement, but to actually delete your comment on their site too??? Sheesh!
As Lindy above mentioned, branding is very important so next time put your logo on, atleast on the first frame if not throughout. Well done on your effort and over 6000 views - big congrats!

Hi Alex (is that what you want to be called?),
Yes, I’ve learned my lesson well.
It seems like ages ago that I made this video, and I’ve learned a lot about the power of links and references to my site. I’m not going to worry too much about this case, especially since I was able to add the annotations. Thanks for your comment!

Nice to see that there is a built in save. It irks me when people want to claim another’s work.
Still think you should sing for us with that nice voice.
