I wanted to help out anyone who posts comments on this blog, so I have installed a “No Follow Free” plugin. I tried one awhile back, and it didn’t work for some reason. This should be helpful for getting backlinks to your websites and blogs. Just a short post here to let you know.

Thanks, Mitch.:) This post got automatically tweeted on Twitter, but I need to figure out how to get the word out more so I get more visitors.

Hey Mitch, I’ve been thinking about doing this on my new blog, but I’m not sure of the pros and cons. Can you explain a little further?

Sure. For a “No Follow” blog (which is what most are by default), search engines would see the link to your website in your comment, but would not follow it to index your page, so, effectively, you would not have a backlink here. Removing “No Follow” eliminates that so that the search engines do crawl the sites linked in comments. The pros are obvious. I guess the only cons I can think of would be if your spam blocker missed one and the spiders linked your blog to the spammer’s site.

What a generous guy. I suppose with the spam filters now available for Wordpress and other major blogs, it’s possible to open this up again and foster more commenting and riffing between blogs. Good for you! Lead the field.

Hi Dave,
Exactly. Akismet (the spam filter) does a really good job of keeping the junk out of the comments. Also, once I’ve approved your first comment here, there isn’t anything left for me to do when you comment again, so it’s very minimal effort. Between removing “No Follow” and the CommentLuv plugin, it’s a pretty good thing. Thanks for your comment!
